PHYSICAL, MENTAL & SPIRITUAL HEALING

Introduction

Our suffering is threefold: physical disease, mental inharmony, and soul ignorance. Environmental suffering is a consequence of these three.

Healing is a word that is becoming widely used, as more people realise the need for balance and harmony in their lives. Harmony is the absence of dis-ease, and thus all illness is just a symptom of this dis-harmony. If we view disease as a teacher, telling us that we need to move towards harmony and wholeness, then it becomes a very useful friend.

To understand how to move into harmony and wholeness it is useful to understand the symptoms and causes of the threefold suffering that we may find the remedies.

Physical disease

Physical disease manifests in a multitude and ever increasing number of ways. Examples range from acute illness such as a sore throat, to chronic illness such as cancer. An acute illness is one that should clear up on its own accord. Acute illness is the bodies way of removing accumulated toxins from the system. Chronic illness is the result of the toxins being prevented from leaving the system in acute illnesses.

Causes

Physical disease is the result of the weakening of the life force in the body. A dead man may have oxygen, food, water and sunlight pumped into him, but he will not revive. This is because the life force is missing. It is the utility and strength of the life force which determines the functioning of all our bodily systems, such as the organs, respiration, metabolism, elimination, and reproduction.

The main cause of physical disease is the breaking of Universal physical laws. Every action will have an equal and opposite reaction. Therefore the accumulation of toxins in the body through exposure to harmful pollution, drugs, and other chemicals will have resulting consequences. The increase in cancer and heart disease this century is a good example of the direct link between accumulated poisons and physical illness.

Overeating, eating wrong foods and lack of exercise is also a major problem for many people which causes unnecessary disease.

Remedies

Follow rules of physical hygiene. Eat plenty of "live" food i.e. fruit and vegetables, and less processed food and animal products which contain so many poisons. Do not overeat. Try to eat like a king for breakfast, a price for lunch and a pauper for dinner (most people have this rule up-side down). Fast occasionally on water or fruit juices to give the body a break from having to digest food (this frees up the life force to heal any body illness). Exercise regularly and if possible outside in exposure to direct sunlight. Try to keep a positive and balanced mind even in the face of trials and illness, remaining calm allows us to tap into our healing ability. Breath deeply and evenly to help bring oxygen and life force to the body and to allow elimination of toxins through the breath.

Mental Inharmony

Many people are understanding the relationship between body and mind, where the condition of one directly affects the other. This is why stress-related disease is growing at such an extent.

Mental inharmony includes susceptibility to temptation, fear, worry, anger, greed, jealousy, hatred, gossiping, laziness, discontent, untrustfulness and prejudice.

Causes

Ignorance, lack of good company, lack of good judgement, unsuitability of vocation, harmful pre-natal or post-natal karma (harmful past actions and tendencies), bad habits, disturbing thoughts.

Remedies

Cultivate peace and faith in the Universal order. Be positive and fill the mind with thoughts and feeling of love and joy. Practise concentration, self control and develop will power. Try to mix with good company and visit places of beauty. Introspect the mind for correct judgement and discrimination. The practise of affirmations, singing, mantra and prayer will help to free the mind of troubles. Regular enjoyable exercise also helps to balance the mind as does correct, deep breathing.

Spiritual disease

Ignorance of who we really are, a soul united with God is spiritual disease. It manifests as lack of soul peace, want of poise, discontentment, unbalance, unkindness, and an unwillingness to meditate or practise other spiritual disciplines.

Cause

Our ignorance and forgetfulness that we are a child of God, a soul made in the image of Spirit is the cause of spiritual disease. Remedies Moderation, non-violence, truthfulness, humility, study of spiritual work, devotion to God, correct posture, correct breathing, control of life force, withdrawal of senses from the outside world, concentration, mediation and spiritual ecstasy.

Conclusion

All suffering stems from our separation to God, the font of all goodness, harmony and health. We have free will, and thus a choice whether to open the windows of our body, mind and soul to the Light of God, or whether to shut them. It is the misuse of our free will which leads us to suffer from physical disease, mental inharmony and soul ignorance. If we open these windows all disease will be driven away, just as darkness is banished when a light is brought into a room.

When we remember our soul nature and live by the laws of harmony then we will be free of all suffering and disease.
